Machines & servers

Add Linux servers and other Macs so their agents land in the same Inbox. Machines dial out, so you open no ports and need no root access.

2 min read · Updated 8 October 2026

Requirements#

  • macOS (Apple silicon or Intel) or Linux on x86_64 or arm64.
  • curl, openssl, python3 and tar.
  • The user account that runs your agents. No sudo, no inbound port.
  • Outbound HTTPS to relay.onestation.dev.

Each Mac can connect up to 20 servers or other Macs; one license covers 2 Macs.

Add a machine#

  1. Create an install command on your Mac

SettingsMachines, then Create install command. It works once and expires in 30 minutes.

  2. Run it on the server

Paste it into a shell as the user who runs your agents:

    curl -fsSL https://onestation.dev/install | sh -s -- <invite>

The installer checks the release signature and checksum, installs into ~/.onestation and starts a background service.

  3. Allow it on your Mac

Compare the code and click Allow, just like pairing a phone.

  4. Check it’s online

The machine appears in SettingsMachines as Online, and its agents show up in the Inbox and Agents view.

Keep the invite out of shell history

A command-line invite is visible in shell history and process listings until it expires. For private input, download the installer and pass the invite from a file or standard input:

curl -fsSLo install https://onestation.dev/install
sh install --invite-file /path/to/invite # or: sh install --stdin

The background service#

LinuxmacOS
Servicesystemd user service onestation-nodeLaunchAgent dev.onestation.node
Statussystemctl --user status onestation-nodelaunchctl print gui/$(id -u)/dev.onestation.node
Logsjournalctl --user -u onestation-node~/.onestation/node.log
Restartsystemctl --user restart onestation-nodelaunchctl kickstart -k gui/$(id -u)/dev.onestation.node

Start before anyone logs in (Linux): user services stop when you log out unless lingering is enabled. Ask an administrator to run:

sudo loginctl enable-linger <user>

Revoke a machine#

SettingsMachines, then Revoke. The machine is disconnected within seconds and its agents leave your Inbox. Then remove the service from the server, see Uninstall.

Troubleshooting#

The machine shows Offline#

  • Check the service is running and read its log (table above).
  • Make sure the server can reach https://relay.onestation.dev on port 443.
  • Your Mac must be awake and running onestation, with an active trial or license. After activating a license, quit and reopen onestation.
  • On Linux, if it goes offline when you log out, enable lingering (above).
